Influencing Policy since 1926

CPRE is one of the oldest and most respected environmental pressure groups and has been influencing policy and raising awareness ever since it was founded in 1926.

We do not stand for a fossilized countryside with chocolate box villages. We accept that the countryside has always changed and will continue to do so. But we want change to be considered carefully and we want to preserve the things we treasure most about the countryside as well as its ability to provide us with food, natural resources, enjoyment and pleasure. CPRE therefore fights destructive decisions and encourages positive ones.

We have a National Office in London from where our lobbying and campaigning is led by a group of highly professional and well qualified people who have the necessary knowledge, expertise and experience needed in the environmental movements today.

This strong central organisation lobbies for the countryside whilst 43 county branches provide an input to central policy and positions. In turn these branches defend the countryside at local level using central advice and assistance when necessary.

Action In Berkshire

The Berkshire Branch has nearly 1000 members and supporters. We have 6 district groups covering the county and are looking to form a seventh to provide greater cover for Slough. We are always looking for new members to welcome and there is always scope for new volunteers to help us in our work. Our group members include many parish councils, local associations, conservation societies and other similar organisations.

CPRE Berkshire is a registered charity which campaigns to protect precious landscapes, green fields and hedgerows. We campaign for sensitive planning in the countryside; for strong and prosperous rural communities; for better rural public transport; for safer and quieter country roads; for alternatives to inappropriate new building; for urban regeneration; for no pollution; for green farming schemes which benefit the countryside; and for sustainability.
