Shock at Waste Incinerator plan in AONB at Chieveley, Nr.Newbury
Threat to the AONB - Waste firm Grundon intends to build a huge incineration plant with 85 metre high stacks capable of powering 50,000 homes. This is planned at a "greenfield" site at Chieveley, Nr. Newbury in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) on the North Wessex Downs.
Localism
The Localism Act has received Royal Assent, but countryside champions, Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE), are warning that the legislation may fail to deliver the power shift it promises, if it is undermined by proposed changes to national planning policies.
