Out on a walk in countryside or town, we often use trees either consciously or subconsciously to find our trail. But which tree is which? 🌳 🤔
Here’s our spotter’s guide to wintry trees and how to identify them… 👇
Fabulous to see this work by volunteers from @WarfieldEnvGrp to restore hedgerows at Larks Hill #Warfield #Berkshire. Hedgerows are our largest 'nature reserve' and the unsung heroes of the countryside. Marvellous!

Until we see more than just #brownfieldfirst rhetoric, our countryside and green spaces will face continued and unnecessary destruction.
We're calling on @BorisJohnson & @michaelgove to introduce #brownfieldfirst planning legislation before it's too late.

Developing on brownfield is a win-win solution for both countryside and urban regeneration 👏 👏
Great article in @Independent on why we're calling for a #brownfieldfirst policy to halt the irreversible and unnecessary destruction of our countryside👇
Our new report shows that the proportion of #brownfield housing units with planning permission is down from 53% in 2020 to 44% in 2021 🏘️
The actual number, at 506,000, is the lowest for four years.

🚨 BREAKING: Despite space being available for 1.3 million new homes to be built on brownfield, housing developers are continuing to destroy green spaces.
This tragic waste is why we’re calling on the government to implement a #brownfieldfirst policy 👇
We're on track to a 2.4C hotter world that will devastate the countryside we love.
@BorisJohnson, step up at #COP26 and follow through on your strong words last week. Finalise a deal that keeps 1.5°C🌡️ alive, protects nature & delivers finance to support those on the frontline. https://twitter.com/TheCCoalition/status/1458465312710479872

Thanks @SamTarry for raising @CPRE's #TransportDeserts research in @HouseofCommons & banging the drum for proper investment in rural public transport! Especially important in the week of #COP26 where we're calling for fewer cars & more buses in the countryside to cut carbon! https://twitter.com/SamTarry/status/1456231763257274368
The climate emergency is the greatest threat to the countryside, which is why we'll be at #COP26 in Glasgow to add our voice to the call for #ClimateAction.

The £1.5bn brownfield land funding in @RishiSunak's #budget21 is good news for the countryside.
But it's disappointing not to see plans to tackle transport deserts and ensure there's the genuinely affordable housing our rural communities need.
We welcome the news that the government is pledging almost £2bn for homes to be built on derelict or previously-used land. This is a promising step towards a brownfield-first approach.

Can we build rural homes that are #affordable, #sustainable AND in-keeping with the local #landscape character? 🤔
The short answer is YES!
We ask three housing developers to share their approach toward building rural homes that people can afford 🏡
Check out this letter from @CPRE's @TomFyans, who sets out why the government should support farmers to plant and restore more hedgerows & set a target of 40% more hedges by 2050 in today's @guardian #40by50
The astronomical #autumn 🍂 begins today!
During autumn, our #hedgerows are alive with rich #berries. #Fungi thrive in the cooler, wetter conditions, and nuts like #chestnut begin to ripen 🌰

🚨 BREAKING: Government sources say planning proposals are to be paused.
This is a BIG win for all of you who joined our campaign for the countryside and local democracy! 👏👏
Now it's time for @MichaelGove to take a fresh look at planning.
If true, we very much welcome this pause in the proposed planning reforms. We urge him and his new department to champion communities, nature and climate as his department drafts the new planning bill.
Let’s hope so, @cpre has lots of ideas to feed in @michaelgove Gove set to pause contentious planning shake-up https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/sep/17/michael-gove-set-to-pause-contentious-planning-shake-up?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
