Are you working on or planning an environmental conservation project in your school? If so, we want to hear from you!

Schools across the county are being invited to register their interest in submitting projects for the 2022 Dorothy Morley Conservation Award, after the award scheme’s postponement twice because of the pandemic.

Set up in memory of dedicated Berkshire conservationist, Dorothy Morley and open to schools across Berkshire, the 2022 Dorothy Morley Conservation Awards, promoted by CPRE Berkshire, recognise the two best school projects that promote environmental conservation in its widest sense. With a First Prize of £1,000 and Second Prize of £500 available, schools can enter any size project. The Awards were postponed from early 2020 and 2021 due to Coronavirus lockdown measures.

Gloria Keene, CPRE Berkshire Branch Secretary said:

“We are delighted to bring back the Award scheme for 2022. Helping children and young people form lifelong connections with nature and conservation can help us bounce back from the pandemic and build resilience in the longer term. Their commitment, passion and imagination to bring positive change to their local environment wherever they live in Berkshire is life-affirming. We hope this countywide award scheme will help them feel that they really can make a difference, particularly when news about the climate change emergency might feel overwhelming. Local action can make a real impact. We are ready to help children and young people and their schools with their ideas, whether at fledgling stage or more advanced. Please do get in touch for more information and the competition guidelines.”

Past examples of successful school projects include sustainable living such as tree planting and waste recycling; plant and species surveys, nature studies, partnership projects with local organisations in towns and villages; promoting organic and local food; creating and developing school gardens; and creating and maintaining accessible wildlife friendly community areas.

You can contact Gloria for more information and the competition guidelines on 0118 930 6756, or email cpreberkshire@btopenworld.com. The awards will be given in July 2022. We can’t wait to hear from you!
